The Office for Research Careers’ (ORC) mission is to support the professional needs of the research community at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The ORC strives to support research trainees and faculty across the academic continuum by providing resources to support and promote career and professional development, enhance the training experience, and foster effective mentoring.

The ORC collaborates with the Brigham Research Institute, Postdoctoral Association, and Center for Diversity and Inclusion to offer a myriad of opportunities to the diverse research community.

Planning Career Transitions and Skills and During the COVID19 Pandemic | HMS Office of Postdoctoral Fellows

Wednesday, November 4 | 2:00-3:30pm

This webinar with Lauren Celano will provide advice for how to plan a career transition during this time with a focus on how to build career relevant skills and experiences. This webinar will cover different information sources that can be used to identify skills and experiences needed for specific roles and how to use this information to develop your skill building plan. This seminar will also highlight different ways to highlight these skills and experiences in a resume, cover letter and during interviews.

Postdoc Resilience: Managing Work & Job Search Stress | HMS Office of Postdoctoral Fellows

We are in uncharted territory with the pandemic and the unknowns about the economy and job market. Most people are feeling a heightened sense of concern and worry. This situation can lead to an increase in levels of stress (and spikes in our cortisol) that can adversely impact our well-being and our effectiveness. However, there are some things you can do. In this interactive webinar taught by Holistic Career Coach & LinkedIn Trainer Sabrina Woods, we’ll discuss details about how stress impacts us, as well as how mindfulness practices and positive psychology principles can help.

2020 Postdoc Scholar Award for Excellence in Mentoring

2020 nominations are open through August 21. This award recognizes postdoctoral fellows’ efforts in mentoring fellow postdocs, students or interns on research projects and/or career development. Fellows can be nominated by PIs, postdocs, students, research staff, and/or self-nomination. Winners are awarded a cash award of $1,000 and recognized at the annual National Postdoc Appreciation Week in September.

Nominate by August 21, 2020.
